French Olive Oils From Languedoc Roussillon

The presence of the Picholine olive in the Langudeoc Roussillon region dates far back in history.  Called the Collias plant or Colasse they are originally found in the ‘garrigues’ or ‘bush’ around the village of Collias which is not far from the Unesco heritage site of the Pont du Gard and a neighbour of our own village Vers Pont du Gard. Its origin is said to be that of the Greek navigateurs and traders who grafted them onto the native olive population. The name is as a result of the semi-industrialisation put in place by the Picholini or Piccolini brothers from St-Chamas in the 18th century. The Picholine olives that make this wonderful olive oil from the Languedoc Roussillon are harvested green and before full maturity.  They release aromas of  artichoke & green-tomato which are very characteristic of an intense fruity Olive Oil.
